About the Photographs

Except for the portrait of me noted below, I took all the photographs used  in the website. I have pictures scattered all around the house -- in the attic, the garage, the basement. I found these under the bed in the spare bedroom. I hadn't seen them in a long while, but I liked them and they were handy.

This one,      for example, I did more than twenty years ago. I took it in my bathroom mirror, printed it in black and white and hand-colored it with regular artist's oils. It's 14x17 inches and has a bit more color in the original and isn't so contrasty, but I like it this way as well.

The dark picture of me was taken by my daughter Leah.  She just graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design as a photography major and she's going to be a far better photographer than I am. It's a 4x5 Polaroid. Look for her website here once she gets it set up. Here's a self-portrait she took for a project she did for school.   Yow!

The picture I used as the background for my homepage   was taken long ago by removing the lens from my 35mm camera, taping a piece of cardboard over the camera body and punching a hole in the cardboard with a protractor. I used the bulb setting and ran around in front of the camera and held reeaalll still for a couple of minutes. I was wearing my bathrobe over one shoulder. I then painted the resulting black and white print with oils. It's a 16x20 print.

The Dream  was taken along the road while driving to the beach in Maryland. The building, now abandoned, was a popular local roller rink for many years. Every time I would drive by it I would think, I ought to take a picture of that, so one day I did. It's a small 4x6 inch black and white print colored with oils and oil pastels.

This one is at least partially much more recent than the others.    The background picture is fairly old, a hand-tinted black and white. A few years ago I collaged the bird onto the print. There is a series of pictures like this one. Size is 16x20.

This picture I took the other day while working on the website.    The portion of the picture you can see in the background is from a large collage and photograph on wood titled The Gift.

I intend on putting up more pictures in the photography section, just for fun. I'll get around to it one of these days.
